Costa do Sol is also known as Estoril Coast. This coast stretches to about 20 miles west of Lisbon. The two major resorts in Costa do Sol are Estoril and Cascais. Most of the tourists from Northern Europe love to visit this beach.

The Southern tip of Portugal gained its reputation due to sandy beaches. This piece of land is known for its coves and caves and some of them are only accessible by boats. There is towering rock formation in Albufeira and Praia da Rocha. If you want to visit the best cove beach, it is in Lagos, which has a deepwater harbor.

Beiras is in the north of Lisbon, in central Portugal. It is known as one of the excellent beaches in Europe. The beaches range from Praia de Leirosa to Praia de Espinho. The major resorts in this area include Figueira da Foz and Buarcos.

The sandy beaches at Ponte de Lima are also among the best known. Other destinations include meccas, Povoa do Varzim and Ofir. These beaches are known to have the best hotels and restaurants in the country.

Visiting Lisbon In A Day

by Portugal Holidays on September 12, 2008

Lisbon is known for its sunlight and a lot of people love to come to the beaches in the early morning. Well my plan was to spend a wonderful day in Lisbon. I went to Baixa café and ordered some bread and coffee. Outside the café I was able to hear the Trams, which were rumbling down the streets made in the 18th century. I hopped on to Tram 28 and it started to head uphill. It was so scenic that I was just lost in its beauty. I saw the cathedral, which had walls like a fortress.

The walls of the cathedral were rushing down the hill toward Rio Tejo. As we headed further, I saw Castelo Sao Jorge that added a marvelous view to the city. On our way we came across a lot of plazas, sunlight that was bouncing back from the river’s surface. It was at Largo da Garca that I got off. I then started to go downhill so I was able to explore the different places that I had passed. Then at the walls of Castelo I decided to have lunch. This was the most peaceful times of my life with the coolness of Atlantic in the breeze.

Then I head to Fernando Pessoa in Chiado. It was the meeting point decided by all the friends and then after we all got together, we strolled down to Miradouro Santa Catarina, which gave an image that got engraved in our minds with river, sky and the awesome colours during sunset. After that we got to Bairro Alto clubs and we just enjoyed the entire night and had lots of fun.

How to spend a great day in the Algarve

If you are looking forward to have a seaside vacation, then Algarve is your destination. Algarve is known for its calm waters, golf courses, and golden beaches. It is not only the day life but Algarve is known for its lively night life. There are hotels and villas at the beaches that give an exciting view of the beach and one can just grab their gear and head to the beach. I will share how I picked the destination to spend a great day in Algarve.

I love rivers and my destination to spend a great day was in the river town of Tavira. My day started off with a thought that if I have to enjoy the riverside, then the best option would be to walk by the river. This gives a good opportunity to see fishermen making their fresh catch. I thought of taking a break and stepped in a restaurant to grab a cup of coffee and some pastries.

After I was done with my breakfast, my plan was to catch a ferry to Ilha de Tavira, which was outside the town. It was an awesome trip, the sun, waves, calmness, everything was superb. I had lunch during this fabulous spiritual journey, where you can feel connected to the air, waves, and the life that breathes through Portugal. After that it was time to head back and from there my plan was to head to Loule. There is an awesome Saturday market that grabs the attention of many. It was there I surfed through ceramics and some handicrafts, which really grabbed my attention. After spending a good hour going through different items, I thought of taking a break and had coffee at one of the oldest restaurants in Loule.

As the day was coming to an end, I thought of taking the northern route and explored some of the country towns and made it back before sunset to have a drink at Rio Gillio.

When to go to Portugal

by Portugal Holidays on September 9, 2008

Visitors fly to Portugal almost throughout the year, but the bulk of them visit during the month of June; especially from mid June to September. If you want to enjoy the festivals of Carnaval and Easter in Portugal, then you need to visit between the months of February and April. It would be amazing for all of us to know that the Festas (festivals) are held throughout the year in many Portuguese villages and towns, which is why there is a constant downpour of visitors throughout the year.

The summer months are the best time to visit Portugal because in these months the temperature runs generally in the 86oF or 30oC. It is in this temperature that every single destination in Portugal will be at its best but there are cities namely Alto Douro and Alentejo where it can be too hot during the summer months. November to March has the most downpour of the year and thus becomes more or less a stay indoor time span. If you want to ski, then the best time to visit Portugal is between January and March. The guides in Portugal also mention that February is the best month for skiing.

Going to Portugal

by Portugal Holidays on September 8, 2008

There are various airports throughout Portugal that the tourists can fly in. The most notable airport is in Lisbon. Your destination airport depends on the country you are coming from. Individuals who are coming to Portugal from neighboring countries can come through trains, buses, even cars. So the planned trip to Portugal depends a lot on the place you are coming from. You can choose the route according to your budget.

If you are into serious touring then it would be best for you to hire a car so that you are able to stop at any place you want. Because if you are travelling on buses and trains, then they have their own time schedules and stops, which will not allow you to have the trip that you have planned of. It is important for all the tourists to know that Portugal has few superhighways and if the traffic jam occurs, then it is going to be a bad one. No matter what, hiring of a car will let you visit the far flung villages of Portugal and will make your journey an awesome event to remember.
